Acai Berry - science shows high nutritional value

The acai berry is a fruit grown on the acai palm tree, located in the Amazon Rainforest of Brazil. It is small and dark purple in colour. It is 90% seed (discarded) and 10% edible skin and pulp (eaten). The nutritional value is up there with many other different countries indigenous food sources for being rich in antioxidants and amino acids.

The fruit is amongst a growing number of indigenous foods world wide that is showing tremendous health properties. The antioxidants in acai, makes it a perfect food source to blend with a variety of other specifically chosen wholefoods to form a food beverage which has a high micro nutrient value, designed to feed cells the right amount in an unaltered state.

You will rarely buy acai fresh as it is highly perishable, spoiling within 24 hours of picking. Most fruit is picked, often wild harvested from the Amazon region, then frozen or dehydrated to form a powder and freeze dried. To purchase outside of the Amazon is expensive.

But there are ways to obtain it in nutritional commercial food products, but choose carefully and ensure you are getting value for money. I recommend an Australian product which contains the fruit but it is blended with a range of other highly nutritional plant sources so the product is a total package and not padded out with common juices or water.

Research Studies

Studies from various government research organisations such as the US Dept of Agriculture, have been researching nutrition and its effect on our health.

One of the strategies being suggested is that eating food high in antioxidants with a high ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity- ability for a substance to subdue oxygen free radicals in clinical tests i.e. antioxidant activity, and produce a rating.), will assist in repairing the damage to our bodes caused through poor diet and other environmental factors. Studies are underway around the world looking for the reasons why certain food groups are able to slow the aging process of the whole body (not just the wrinkles on your face) including the brain and other organs. It does this by reducing the mutations caused by duplication in the DNA. This may define our future diet intake to reduce DNA (cell) damage.

If you want to stay energetic, healthy and look younger then a good diet and exercise is the key. But that diet needs to have a broad spectrum of micronutrients Acai is one of them.
