It’s the antioxidants that we consume that neutralise them. Its not about taking just one antioxidant as there are so many that do different work.

Each cell in our body is designed to perform specific functions. Then consider that the free radicals are damaged cells of specific functions and are slightly different from the neighbouring organ that has different free radicals. To treat this differing free radicals, we need to consume a range of antioxidants that are specifically targeting a type of free radical.

So to fight them we need to increase our diet in food sources that are high in particular antioxidants which bind to the tissue damaging molecules called free radicals. This binding blocks the harmful effects that the free radicals can cause.

For general health a broad spectrum of antioxidants are required and the following are the most recommended.

It works by binding to toxins like arsenic, cadmium and mercury and neutralises the destructive effects. Selenium is a powerful antioxidant that strengthens the immune system. It does this by neutralising the damaged cells (cancer cells) and destroying them. But like many things too much can have adverse effects. Under 200mcg per day is the therapeutic range.

Carotenoids
