Heart Disease - Prevention is Easy!

Heart disease is a chronic disease. A serious fact is that it can be prevented by having healthy nutrition and lifestyle.

Stay healthier longer is the key and the earlier we start the greater the benefit we derive.

Australian Health Risk Factors

Research conducted since the early 1990’s by the CSIRO has established statistical data of the Australian population, showing

• 60% are overweight (7.42m adults)

• 54 % are not sufficiently active to achieve health benefits (7.27m adults)

• 51% have high blood cholesterol (6.40m adults)

• 30% have high blood pressure (3.69m adults)

• 20% smoke daily (3.06M adults)

• 10% drink levels considered harmful to their health (1.54m adults)

• 8%have diabetes (945 600 adults)

What are the costs to Australia?

Cardiovascular Disease has cost the Australian health system A$7.6 billion in 2004. This equates to about 11% of the total spent on health. The bad facts are this is expected to rise to A$11.5 billion by 2011.

The prediction for the rise is due to an increase in the average of the population, escalating rates of obesity, costs involved in new technologies and pharmaceuticals that focus on treatment rather than prevention.

Most of us know that the older we get the more weight we tend to put on. Prevention is better than any treatments or cures that are designed. As we live longer we need to look after out future. Chronic Disease is not what we should look forward too. An increase in chronic disease in those of us who have aged will eventually erode the health and wellbeing of individuals and cost our society.

Prevent Heart Disease and Inflammation

Inflammation is involved in heart disease. An inflammatory disease called Atherosclerosis results in the accumulation of cholesterol plaque in artery walls. This can lead to a heart attack and stroke. A powerful antioxidant called Resveratrol has been found to reduce this build up. Resveratrol is found in several fruits but mainly in the skins of red grapes.
